Laurence S. Levy - Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Levy has been our chairman of the board, president and
Chief Executive Officer since October 2002. In June 1986, Mr. Levy
co-founded Hyde Park Holdings, Inc., a private investment firm
specializing in leveraged buyouts and has been its chairman of the
board since that date. In March 1991, Hyde Park acquired Warehouse
Associates L.P., a private logistics provider, and Mr. Levy has
served as its chairman of the board since that time. In
January 1997, Hyde Park acquired Detroit & Canada Tunnel
Corporation, a publicly traded company that operates the toll
tunnel between Detroit and Windsor, Canada, in partnership
with John Hancock Financial. Mr. Levy served as its chairman
of the board until January 2001 when the company was sold at a
significant gain. In April 1999, Hyde Park and John Hancock
Financial established PFI Resource Management LP and Mr. Levy
has served as its manager since that date. PFI Resource
Management is an investor in the Private Funding Initiative
program in the United Kingdom which is privatizing state
infrastructure assets and has acquired over $1 billion of
assets. In October 1999, Hyde Park in partnership with Credit
Suisse, formed a predecessor of Ozburn-Hessey Logistics, LLC
and built the company by closing seven acquisitions. Since
that time, Mr. Levy has served as a director of Ozburn-Hessey
Logistics which is an independent logistics company operating
over 33 million square feet of warehousing and is one of the
largest independently owned logistics companies in the United
States. In January 2000, Hyde Park in partnership with John
Hancock Financial, acquired Derby Industries LLC, a leading
sub-assembler to the appliance industry. Since that time, Mr.
Levy has served as chairman of the board of Derby Industries
LLC. During 2005, Hyde Park acquired John Hancock’s interest
in Derby. In November 2004, Mr. Levy formed Rand Acquisition
Corporation, a publicly listed vehicle, in which he raised $24
million. In March 2006 Rand acquired a shipping company on the
Great Lakes. Rand has made two additional acquisitions since
that time and is the dominant provider of River Class shipping
on the Great Lakes. In March 2007, Mr. Levy raised $100
million of equity in a new publicly listed company named Hyde
Park Acquisition Corporation. Hyde Park acquired Essex Crane
Rental Corp., the leading owner and renter of crawler cranes
in the United States for $210 million. Mr. Levy joined the
board of Sunbelt Holding, Inc., a leading distributor of fine
wines and spirits, in March 2010.
Mr. Levy received a
Bachelor of Commerce degree and a Bachelor of Accountancy
degree from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg,
South Africa, and an M.B.A. from Harvard University and where
he graduated as a Baker Scholar. He is also a Chartered
Accountant (South Africa).
